The TISA Method

The TISA Method™ is a professional practice framework designed to strengthen how professionals observe, interpret, evaluate, decide, and act in the situations they encounter.

Professional knowledge provides an essential foundation for practice, but professional judgment requires more than knowledge alone. How professionals understand information, assign meaning, evaluate circumstances, make decisions, and exercise authority can influence both the quality of professional practice and the experiences of the people they serve.

The Five Professional Actions

The TISA Method organizes professional practice through five interconnected Professional Actions. Together, they provide a structured process for moving from initial observation through interpretation, evaluation, decision-making, and action.

Observe → Interpret → Evaluate → Decide → Act

From Observation to Action

Each Professional Action serves a distinct function within the TISA Method. Together, they help professionals move through situations with greater awareness, intentionality, and accountability.

Observe directs attention to the information available in a situation while remaining open to what may not yet be known.

Interpret examines how meaning is assigned to what has been observed while considering multiple plausible explanations.

Evaluate considers the significance of the available information and what it means for the situation at hand.

Decide brings judgment to the selection of an appropriate course of action.

Act puts professional judgment into practice through intentional action.

Developing Professional Practice

The TISA Method provides a foundation for professional learning and continued practice development across the Institute. Through education, reflection, application, and continued examination, professionals can strengthen not only what they know, but how they exercise judgment and authority in service to others.
